Assume all quotes are from Fiction unless stated otherwise.
When thrown / hit to a plat with Marth techroll to slideoff or tech in place if you think marth is reading techrolls.
On big stages: between stocks dashdance near center then jump to a side plat and shield With a correct shield tilt Marth doesn't have a great way to hit Fox from plat -Marth has to make a tough read to hit Fox in these 2 seconds -Even if Marth catches you center stage he has to work a lot harder to get a kill -As opposed to if you're in the corner where Marth could rip f-smash and get a random kill
On small stages: between stocks start on sideplat then go to ledge and ledgedash off. -It's much easier for Marth to catch you on these stages. -"On these smaller stages you basically get destroyed in invincibility if you don't use the ledge. You can get away with the platforms but it's really really hard."
"The thing with Fox is... he destroys a lot of characters without having to focus on the specifics. usually they're (opponent) the ones who have to focus on Fox's specifics. Against Marth it's a little different... basically all of Marth's moves beat your moves but you can beat any specific move [Marth] does." -If both Fox and Marth are just playing pure mixups without taking in mind exactly what the Marth wants to do then Fox just loses. -"This matchup is very surgical... for instance if Marth does a shorthop early fair you have to be ready to nair it. But if he does a shorthop late fair you need to space yourself perfectly outside the range of his fair and if he nairs you need to be ready to dashdance grab it and if he does a dtilt you need to be ready to dashdance shorthop drill." -You're not trying to read things you're trying to bait them. -Random isn't good against Marth for this reason
If Marth whiffs and you're not there you get a big punish a lot of times. -Marth is less likely to have hitboxes out for this reason. -There are a lot of scenarios where you can do the coverage for an option Marth picks and not leave yourself too vulnerable. -Example being: if Fox dashback dash in drills where he thinks Marth is going to wavedash / running dtilt Marth would have to make a read and place himself where he'd be more vulnerable to Fox's other mixups.
"If Fox does everything correctly like very situationally tight the matchup becomes much more even... This matchup is even but if you mess up he (Marth) gets perfect zero to deaths. But if you don't mess up... his hits do less combo wise than yours (Fox)." -No Fox is at the point where they play like this consistently enough to matter which is why the matchup is currently Marth favored by most and why Marths currently beat up Foxes.
Fox has two extremely different strats to play based on if the stage is a triplat. -"The top platform completely changes this matchup."
Sora/Joshman said "An old Fox legend from Australia once said the ground is the casino and the top plat is the penthouse. Why fuck around in the casino when you can just chill at the penthouse?" -When on top plat Marth doesn't have a lot of options to contest Fox. -This is because fox has too many mixups coming down from top plat (think shield drop ff drill). -Marths will typically put themselves under a sideplat in this scenario, giving up center
When attacking Marth in the corner you have 2 main ways to attack him. -Going all the way into the corner with something like shinegrab. -Fullhop towards sideplat. When doing this you can... -Fall through the plat without landing and attack -Land and do a dash shielddrop and attack
If you land a drill near the corner skip shine and just grab -The shine will more often than not hit marth to ledge -Marth doesn't have any fast tools to beat drill > grab
When Marth does shorthops, dashdance at the tip of the drift fair.
